Here I am sat on my bed at 3am, slightly soggy thanks to the monsoon conditions outside my bedroom window. Despite the rain and the fact the Germans unpredictably won another penalty shoot-out I'm feeling rather content. Here's why: I've finshed my first week as a "teacher", I'm still alive, I have some "hite" inside me (Korean beer, add the "s" yourself) and England are still in the world cup.
Mainly though it's the teaching thing thats got me feeling warm and fuzzy inside. I predicted that the first few weeks would be spent not knowing what I'm doing, being shouted at for not knowing what I'm doing and then crying because I don't know what I'm doing. In reality I'm prancing (in a manly way) around the classroom, smacking kids about (in a nice way), teaching these mini Koreans how to speak the best damn language in the world! It will almost certainly get old but hearing "teacher, teacher" is like music to my ears at the moment. Trying not to laugh at some of their strange ideas is the hardest part so far. Apologies to everyone who's not interested in football but one kid was moaning at me about the "dirty swisser umpire that pipa (fifa) paid to lose Korea". In English I think that means the Koreans are bitter about losing to Switzerland. I jus' love 'em!
In other news I was happily wandering around a Korean spa in naught but my birthday suit, an interesting experience to say the least. I'm finally going to the grand capital tommorrow to meet Ris and then watch the football. Especially looking forward to an area called 'homo-hill' in a country which I've been assured (by a real live Korean) doesn't have gay people. So hopefully I'll have some pico's of an interesting city next time. Unfortunately nothing 'round here is worth photographing, all 60's tower blocks and the like...lovely.
So big up the Blighty and think of me next time you eat noodles.
